Pre-Arrival Checklist

Step 1.1

Apply to study in Canada through your home educational institution’s Study Abroad Office for exchange programs.

Step 1.2

Check the Canadian college/university admission’s webpage to apply for admission to a full academic program.

Step 2

Accept your offer for study in Canada. 

Step 3

Apply for a passport, or check that your current passport will be valid for at least six months beyond your return date. 

Step 4

Apply for immigration documents, if required.

Step 5

Book airline tickets.

Step 6

Buy travel and health insurance.

Step 7

Arrange accommodation in Canada.

Step 8

Arrange transportation to/from the airport at home and in Canada.

Step 9

Arrange your banking - consider buying traveller’s cheques for large denominations, as well as carrying a smaller amount of cash.

Step 10

Check baggage and customs limitations.

Step 11

Clear all paperwork with your home educational institution.

Step 12

Get your documents in order and make photocopies to store in your baggage and keep at home, including: 

/ Passport / Airline tickets / Travel insurance certificate / Letter of Acceptance from your Canadian educational institution
/ Key addresses & Phone numbers / A bank statement showing proof of funds

/ Letter of Introduction from Canadian Immigration - if applicable

/ Prescriptions for any medication you are carrying / Traveller’s cheques—if applicable

/ Medical and immunization records / Academic history and university transcripts /
